steam from the espresso was screaming
coffee grounds releasing
dark excitement into plain water

he brushed past me in line
evoking a charge
it waved through my body
this magnetic sensation
that was like
like caffeine vibrating my skin

his proximity so near
it left my breath in a pant
and i
i ordered an espresso
in a demitasse
i sat down, listened to the drip
of coffee conversation
tasted a perfectly shaped note of Ohhhh that’s good
so hot
sped my heart, made me sweat
and i
i looked around for that fellow
the one who caused such a steam

the guy who burned my lips
with his heat

Larry Potts, an award-winning singer/songwriter surprised me with his response to my “flaming inspiration” piece. hope you enjoy it

Eros never had it so good.

Flame and desire equal elements
to inspire the artist who unconsciously remembers
what the Muse told him:

pay attention to the woman
pay homage to the woman
without her you are nothing.

Strokes on the canvas only capture
her fleeting after-passions: so very close
to what just happened:

Oh yes, she draws you out like summer heat
and your thirst is quenched
only by her passion and her perfect still union
slumbering in the ecstasy of
her freely given pleasure: what’s left in repose?

just this: color of orange fire

the flavors of my lips
inspired by jack prelutsky’s poem bleezer’s ice cream

push away your first impressions
& move on past your rules
i have a lot of flavors in me
some I’ll let you choose

lazy eyes to dream me in
feel the purring of my hips
better yet just sit right here
and taste the flavor of my lips

i have
mocha cherry almond
tequila sunrise jewel
lemon spray francesca
butterscotch cashew

i have a chocolate velvet tongue
that calls your lips to mine
come taste a lick of sunshine
and suck my lips like wine

i’ve got
bourbon salt vanilla
and margarita tart divine
the zest of all our flavors
will spice us up sublime

so take a step aside
your route
and savor a little taste
i promise you a flavor
you wouldn’t want to waste

push away your diet
forget your other plans
its time for blueberry kisses
to meet with cherry valentines

sitting in the doll house room
romper room chairs
too stiff to be comfortable
breathing oil molecules

he scribbling on his sleeve
the rest reading the provided sports illustrated
or staring at CNN on the dinky TV screen
me sitting on the edge of my life

he was gangly
and wore a misshapen hat
i could see in his eyes which did not look my way
that he was misunderstood

i could see myself
climbing onto his lap and kissing those purple lips
“I understand you” my hips would say
his hands would say
he had always known me
and we would wake up
with legs tangled in saturday morning sheets

cheap plastic chair
facing the wrong direction
my heart spread open secretly calling him
i will leave my life for you
abandon the old me to throw myself into you

he paid his bill
and walked right out
the crude little door
putting the brakes
on my fantasy ride

they came
to Be Seen

walked in like show horses
parading, even

she, lovely-legs blonde with her evenly-cut hair
sliding down her pretty back
her nubile ripeness, nipples upon rounded fruits
and her ass
her perfect moon-ass

she was wearing high heels, of course
and nothing else
well, except for a provocative mini-thong
color-coded to match her hot pink stiletto sandals

and he with his perfectly shaped dick, muscled thighs
and dark, foxy features
gliding her around the dance floor, all eyes on the fire flys
scrotum and all

i couldn’t take my eyes off them.
i looked at my friend, susan
and her eyes were popping out

they relished in the eyes
that bathed their
naked bodies

they came
to Be Seen

Bill's Blog

I love a statement I found attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi: “I wish to be known all over Europe for my humility.” Throughout my time as a writer and musician, I’ve tried to harbor a similar inclination, a sort of quiet pride in what I’ve done, but I am also well aware that, as far back as 1959, author Norman Mailer espoused, when it came to calling attention to one’s own work, what is a more efficacious attitude. He published Advertisements for Myself—and set the tone for a future we are all a part of now. So here’s Bill’s Blog.

Carmen the Chicken Killer by Sarah Curtiss

This is the story of my 2-month stay in Costa Rica a few years ago. It wasn’t my first trip. I had visited the year before with my partner, William Solis, who is from Costa Rica. But this particular year I wanted to learn Spanish. My initial plan was to take an immersion course in Mexico. However, William said that if I was going to immerse myself in a Spanish family it might as well be his. They don’t speak any English so I would be forced to speak Spanish and I could get to know them better. I told him that when I returned I would know more about him and his family than he did and so it has proven to be true. William joined me for the last 10 days. This is my journal plus emails I wrote to family and friends and a few comments from my current perspective…six years later. I drew a picture every day using pencil, pen, colored pencil, water colors, and acrylics. I wrote in my journal almost every day. I took photographs.
